Earth Observant Inc., or EOI Space, a developer of low-flying intelligence satellites, will launch its first craft next year aboard a Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) rideshare rocket.
The 2023 mission aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket “will allow EOI to test and validate its technology, ensuring the satellite’s configuration and operational parameters meet the desired mission applications,” the company said in a news release.
“This is an exciting time for us as EOI will be the first private company to operate in (very low Earth orbit.) Our first satellite launch is just the beginning of EOI’s mission to provide the highest resolution commercially available imagery and near real-time data delivery to our government and commercial customers,” EOI chief executive Christopher Thein said in the release. “We look forward to working with SpaceX on additional rideshares as we complete manufacturing a series of satellite rollouts in the near future.”
EOI’s satellites will use the company’s electric propulsion technology to capture image and location data around the globe for the purpose of government and commercial real-time intelligence, asset monitoring and situation awareness.
